Information on standardized electric motors

Electric motors are generally standardized. Which means they are compatible between different brands. The standardized motors have an ''IEC'' type (mechanical quantity) in which on  then finds standard rotation speeds and powers according to these last 2 data.

You will find, below, important information concerning the choice or the replacement of an electric motor.

Mounting forms

There are several forms of mounting for electric motors. The form of mounting determines how the motor will be mounted on the installation. This is very important information that is not always listed on the nameplate.

Explanation of mounting forms

B3: motor fixed by legs

B5: large flange at the front of the motor, the holes are through

B14-1: middle flange at the front of the motor, the holes are threaded

B14-2: small flange at the front of the motor, the holes are threaded

According to photos below, it is possible to combine a foot motor with a flange.

Mounting positions

After determining the mounting form, the mounting position of the motor must also be chosen.

This indicates whether the motor comes mounted horizontally, vertically axis down or up, upside down, etc.

Motor sizes

Certain dimensions (axle, key, flange, fixing distance between feet, etc.) are 100% standardized. Other dimensions (length, height, width, etc.) are not standardized and are dimensioned according to the manufacture of the manufacturer.

It is therefore very important to  validate the dimensions before ordering a new engine.
